Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
Text entered into a search tool is sent to the third-party provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the request under its own policies. Burke County Court Docket does not maintain a separate log of the names or case numbers entered into those tools.
Messages and Contact Submissions
If a visitor sends a message to the operator, the message may be retained so it can be handled or answered. It is not shared outside the operator's organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Like most websites, the servers and service providers can receive technical details associated with a visit:
- IP address
- Browser version and device type
- Operating system
- Pages viewed and time spent on them
- Referral source, if one was provided
- Page-view timestamps
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies and analytics tools may be used to understand page traffic and site performance. A browser can block cookies through its settings, although some functions may behave differently when cookies are disabled.
What We Do With This Data
Technical and service data may be used for ordinary site operations, including:
- Maintaining availability and performance
- Sending a search request to the selected service provider
- Reviewing which information is useful to visitors
- Diagnosing and resolving technical problems
- Displaying advertising that may be relevant to a visit
No Court-Record Data on File
This resource does not host, maintain, compile, or sell a database of Burke County court dockets or personal case records. It provides general direction to the Burke County Clerk of Superior Court, Superior and District Courts, and North Carolina eCourts Portal. It is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor information is not assembled into consumer reports about other people.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes that appear on some pages. Information entered into those tools is governed by the partner's privacy policy and its own retention and sharing rules. The operator of Burke County Court Docket does not control those practices, so visitors should review the partner policy before submitting a query.
Links to Other Websites
Official court, clerk, state, and third-party links take a visitor to websites outside this resource. The privacy practices of the destination site govern after that transition. Advertising partners may also use their own systems to measure activity across websites.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Information can be processed by the following categories when necessary:
- Search partners handling a submitted query
- Analytics providers measuring traffic or performance
- Advertising networks serving advertisements
- Government or law-enforcement bodies responding to a valid legal requirement
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable administrative and technical safeguards are used for the data collected through this resource. No internet-connected service can guarantee perfect security, so a breach-free outcome cannot be promised.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from people under 18. If an operator learns that a minor supplied personal information, the information will be removed as appropriate.
Your Data Rights
North Carolina's court-record access framework includes N.C. Gen. Stat. § 7A-109 and N.C. Gen. Stat. § 132-6.2. Those laws govern public court and agency records, not a private website's visitor data. Where applicable, a visitor may ask for a copy of data held by the operator, correction of inaccurate data, deletion of data, or an opt-out from certain processing.
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised when operations or applicable requirements change. The current version will appear on this page with its effective date.
